Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
We are proud to announce that our student Kyshaya Fritz-Hoskins was awarded one of the NASCA Youth Awards for 2025. This award celebrates the remarkable achievements of young people across our program who have demonstrated excellence in Culture, Education, Community and Pathways.
Pulse Alive 2025 had the Melville High School Dance Group busting a move in Syndey Olympic Park at the start of this year. Our students dance with peers from all over NSW and met many new friends while learning new dance skills. We have applied to participate in 2026 and have been successful so we will be getting our dance shoes ready!
Melville High School’s Primary Industry students had the opportunity to gain their Statement of Attainment in Sheep Shearing and Wool judging out at a station in Uralla, NSW. The students worked with TAFE teachers to learn these new skills and met students from schools across NSW.
The Melville High School Dance Group auditioned and were selected to perform in the 2024 School Spectacular. These students danced up a storm at Qudos Arena in a combined NSW schools' performance and represented our school brilliantly. In November of 2025 we are bigger and better than last year, representing at School Spectacular with a huge number of students participating in the Boy Hip Hop, D’Arts - Supported Learning, Aboriginal Dance Group and the School Spectacular Flash Mob.
Stage 5 Agriculture students on an excursion to the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The students got the opportunity to be exposed to all areas of agriculture while sneaking in a few rides to round out the day.
The Lower North Coast Dance Festival was another huge success this year for the Melville High School Dance Group. Our dancers demonstrated their high level of skill as they performed in a variety of dance genres; jazz, hip hop and contemporary styles.
Stage 5 and 6 students proudly showing off their achievements from the Dubbo Merino Challenge. Our students worked with 6 merino sheep borrowed from a station out near Dubbo. They performed animal husbandry skills and halter trained the sheep to participate in a show day at the end of August. All the students hard work paid off resulting in a first place in wool value in Zone 1.
This year, Melville High School students from across all year groups competed in the Lake Keepit Winter Warrior Challenge. There were a variety of challenges testing their knowledge, puzzle solving abilities, endurance and teamwork capabilities. Our amazing students worked together and developed new skills which had them crossing the finish line with grins from ear to ear. All their determination and persistence pushed them to achieve first place in the mixed group category.
Melville’s Marvelous Minds STEM team collaborated with another local Connected Community School to participate in the First LEGO League Challenge held at South Kempsey Public School. The event included costumes, wild behaving robots, LEGO challenges and the students had to present and idea of how to use technology to minimise our carbon footprint on the environment. Our students got to work with students of all ages from a variety of schools in the area. Even though our robots didn’t win their challenges, our students were voted the Best Peers of the event.
In Term 4 of 2025, we were privileged to welcome Deadly Science to our school to share their expertise. Students engaged in a range of interactive activities, gaining exposure to diverse scientific concepts and broadening their understanding of the subject.
Our 2025 Year 12 cohort made history at Melville High School as the first to proudly don graduation caps and gowns—marking the beginning of a new and meaningful tradition. These students demonstrated remarkable dedication and hard work throughout their schooling, and we commend them for their outstanding achievements. The Melville High School community has always been immensely proud of our Year 12 students, and this new tradition is a special way to celebrate and honour their success.
